I used the hammer and horned helmet for almost all the game. Most weapons and hats (throwing weapons) were bad. The weapon and armour perks had many upgrades which felt completely useless such as 'the first skull throw of the levels deals extra damage' or 'healing at full health gives gold.' There were at least 10 trinkets and none were anywhere close to as good as this one. The first trinket I found increased all skills by 2. The upgrades are mostly trash, which was very disappointing. Enjoyable enough while it lasts but very repetitive.Įach area has new enemies and new equipment but you're forced to play these levels over and over to unlock enough bloodstones to unlock the boss and next area. And if you don't intentionally choose to switch weapons (all of which have their own attack pattern, which is cool), it'll feel even more same-y.īesides Neon Chrome this is my favorite 10tons game. Otherwise the biggest expectation that might fall short for some people is how.not varied the runs are, as you don't get a ton of perks per run, and there isn't crazy synergies or that "super OP build" you might get in other roguelikes. Oh, and a comment on bosses, they aren't some super crazy difference from basic enemies, where you need to memorize their patterns and so on to beat them. It does have the idea of keeping your health level between "quests" (basically 3-6 floor mini-runs), and gaining Bloodstones that are used to unlock the boss of each biome. Vaguely reminds me of the niche game Fight the Dragon, besides something mainstream like Hades.Īnd you know, maybe I'm being too harsh by saying it's not original. This game might not win awards for originality, both in setting and mechanics, but it's a tight and well done roguelike that has fun combat, environments, weapons, gear, and perks to keep you playing, and honestly I can't ask for much more than that for $14 CDN. Find perks and buffs as you play and these stay active for your run Coins-drop from enemies and you keep them after death to buy permanent upgrades. And if you happen to find the experience too complicated, you can invite a few friends to help and play in cooperation. But you don't have to worry, everything will be procedurally generated, so replayability is ensured and you will definitely not be bored. However, it should be noted that if you die before you remove your nemesis from the world, it will become even stronger and you will do the extra work. When selecting a new body, you have a couple options, with each being a different perk already tethered to you. Whenever you die, you return back to the necromancer’s crypt and you select a new Skelton to inhabit. With Skeletal Avenger, you pretty much only lose your progress in the dungeon you were in and lose blood gems, which is a currency that you accumulate to finish a dungeon. Normally in this genre, when you die you tend to lose everything and mostly start from scratch. The rules of this hack-n-slash version pretty forgiving. When he successfully kills him, liberation will take place and you can move on to the next level. In practice it work in such a way that your hero is a lost soul who can redeem himself only by wandering underground, destroying enemies and, above all, chasing his killer. At the same time, you will experience a kind of reincarnation and you will chase your nemesis and murderer underground. Instead of trying to get deeper into the dungeons and advance to the next level, you will start somewhere in the depths, from where you will try to fight your way to the surface. They are trying to do the same with the Skeletal Avenger, which looks ordinary at first glance, but offers the exact opposite experience. The developers of this small studio have proven many times in the past that they can easily conquer lovers of fast and dynamic games and pin them to the screen for a pretty long time. Fortunately, we still have studios that know how to properly engage players, and one of them is 10 tons.
